Industrial Applications of Power-to-X in Chemicals, Transport, and Energy

e-fuels from renewables Renewable-carbon fuels—e-fuels—used in transport and heavy industry.

E-fuels are a class of synthetic fuels produced using renewable electricity and captured carbon. Unlike conventional biofuels, which are derived from biomass, e-fuels are not constrained by land use or agricultural competition. They are considered carbon-neutral because the CO2 released during combustion is the same CO2 that was initially captured from the atmosphere or from industrial emissions.

This makes them a highly attractive option for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors like aviation and maritime transport, as they are energy-dense and compatible with existing infrastructure.
